the knots we inherit

Hello beautiful soul.

Long before we ever held our own children in our arms, we were being shaped by the families we were born into.

Every family has spoken and unspoken rules.

Some are beautiful and life-giving.

Others were created in response to fear, hardship, or survival.

Children should be seen and not heard.

Work comes before play.

Don't cry.

Be strong.

Put others first.

Success means security.

Love is earned.

Many of these messages are passed down not because our parents intended harm, but because they too inherited them from those who came before.

The truth is, most parents are doing the best they can with the threads they were given.

Red Thread Parenting invites us to hold this truth with compassion.

Not blame.

Not shame.

Simply awareness.

Because what remains unseen often remains repeated.

You may notice yourself becoming uncomfortable when your child expresses emotions freely because emotions were not welcomed in your home.

You may feel anxious when your child takes risks because safety was uncertain in your family story.

You may push achievement because somewhere deep inside you learned that worth had to be earned.

Our children have a way of revealing the inherited knots we carry.

Not to burden us.

But to offer us an opportunity to untangle them.

Each time we pause and ask, "Where did I learn this?" we loosen the grip of old stories.

Each time we choose differently, we change what is passed forward.

Healing does not erase the past.

It honors it while creating a new future.

The knots we inherit do not have to become the knots our children carry.

And perhaps that is one of the greatest gifts of parenting:

the opportunity to heal generations both behind us and ahead of us.

With Love,

Maria
