when their thread pulls against ours

Hello beautiful soul.

When we become parents, we often imagine the ways we will guide our children. We picture the values we will teach, the traditions we will pass on, and the lives we hope they will create for themselves.

And then our children arrive.

Not as blank slates waiting to be shaped, but as fully formed souls carrying their own unique thread.

You can see it early on.

The toddler who insists on doing it their own way.

The child who spends hours building, drawing, collecting, or imagining.

The teenager who loves something we never expected.

Even from the very beginning, children reveal who they are.

And sometimes, who they are pulls against who we are.

The cautious parent may have an adventurous child. The outgoing parent may have a quiet and sensitive child. The organized parent may have a child who moves through life with creativity and spontaneity.

When this happens, it can stir something deep within us.

We may find ourselves frustrated, worried, or uncertain. We may try harder to guide them toward what feels familiar or safe. Yet often, what we are experiencing is not a problem to solve but an invitation to untangle.

Because parenting has a way of revealing our own threads.

The places where we learned to stay small.

The places where we learned to perform.

The places where love became intertwined with fear.

Without realizing it, we can begin wrapping our thread around theirs.

Be careful.

Don't fail.

Fit in.

Choose security.

Do it this way.

But children are not meant to live our lives.

They are meant to live theirs.

Red Thread Parenting invites us to pause when our child's thread pulls against our own and ask:

What is being stirred in me right now?

What belief or fear is asking to be seen?

Untangling begins not by changing our children, but by turning inward with curiosity.

Because every knot we loosen within ourselves creates more space for our children to become who they already are.

The thread was never meant to bind us.

It was meant to guide us home.

With Love, Maria
