If you want to find a child's red thread, watch what lights them up.

Not what they are good at.Not what earns praise.Not what others think they should pursue.

Watch what brings them alive.

A child can spend hours building forts, drawing dragons, collecting rocks, creating imaginary worlds, taking apart electronics, caring for animals, asking endless questions, or practicing the same skill over and over again. To adults, these interests may appear random. To the child, they are magnetic.

Something inside them is being pulled.

Too often we dismiss these sparks because they don't seem practical. We worry they won't lead anywhere.

We fear our children are wasting time.

But curiosity is never wasted.

Curiosity is one of the ways the red thread reveals itself.

Children naturally move toward what nourishes their growth. Their interests become invitations into learning. A child fascinated by insects may discover science. A child who loves stories may develop literacy. A child who builds endlessly may become an engineer, architect, artist, or inventor—or perhaps none of those things.

The point is not where the interest leads.

The point is that the interest itself matters.

When we honor a child's curiosity, we send a powerful message:

What interests you matters.What delights you matters.Who you are matters.

The red thread often begins as a spark.

Our job is not to decide where it should lead.

Our job is to protect the flame.
