guidance without taking the wheel

Hello beautiful soul.

One of the greatest challenges of parenting is learning the difference between guidance and control.

Most parents genuinely want what is best for their children. We want them to be safe, successful, happy, and loved.

The problem is that fear often disguises itself as guidance.

Fear says:

Choose this because it's secure.

Don't take that risk.

Be careful.

Fit in.

Don't disappoint anyone.

Love sounds different.

Love says:

Let's discover who you are.

Let's learn together.

Let's explore your gifts.

Let's pay attention to what feels true.

Children need guidance. They need boundaries, support, and wisdom from the adults who care for them.

But guidance is not the same as steering every decision.

Imagine hiking beside your child on a trail. You point out dangers. You offer supplies. You share what you've learned along the way.

But you do not carry them on your shoulders for the entire journey.

The red thread belongs to them.

Parenting asks us to hold a delicate balance: staying close enough to support while allowing enough freedom for discovery.

It is not always easy.

Yet every time we choose curiosity over control, we strengthen our child's connection to their own inner knowing.

And that may be one of the greatest gifts we can offer.

With Love,

Maria
